Build Your Future in Metrology

Metrology Mini Certificate

Program prepares students for entry-level employment in the inspection, Quality Assurance and/or manufacturing field.  Learn how to use traditional precision inspection tools, articulating inspection arms, laser scanners and coordinate measuring machines, CMM’s.   Study about the science of measurement and acquire in demand job skills that can lead to lucrative employment at companies using advanced manufacturing measuring technologies. Work in clean temperature controlled inspection laboratories at leading aerospace, defense and medical manufacturing companies.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Employ basic measurement tools to perform inspections.
  • Perform simple calculations for unit conversions and to obtain final values from Blueprints for inspection reports.

Metrology Certificate

The Metrology Certificate Program covers various aspects of the manufacturing processes which has an emphasis on dimensional metrology, inspection reporting, mechanical part geometry and computer-assisted inspection. Metrology is crucial that actual employment functions of performing measurement activities are completed with no errors. Measurement and metrology procedures are utilized to ensure that parts and components are manufactured as engineers intended for parts and assemblies to work correctly and not fail.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Employ basic and automated measurement tools to perform inspections.
  • Perform simple calculations for unit conversions and to obtain final values from Blueprints for inspection reports.
  • Complete a simple Inspection Report utilizing basic measurement tools and drawings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the ANSI Y14.5 standard and how it is applicable to inspection processes.

Overall employment of industrial machinery mechanics, machinery maintenance workers, and millwrights is projected to grow 7 percent from 2016 to 2026, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Employment growth will vary by occupation. The increased adoption of sophisticated manufacturing machinery will require more mechanics and millwrights to keep machines in good working order. Increased automation, including the use of many computer-controlled machines in factories and manufacturing plants, should raise the demand for machinery maintenance workers in order to keep the machines functioning properly. The increased use of machinery in manufacturing will require millwrights to install and disassemble this equipment, as well as perform some repair work on it.
